Mullanphy Emigrant Home owner wants to sell

Mullanphy Emigrant Home owner Paul Hopkins apparently will get a large payment from his insurance company, so he is backing away from his original $100,000 price tag. His deductible is $5,000, so he at least wants that plus a little more from a buyer so that the building can be preserved.

Interested -- and competent -- parties should call the ONSL Restoration Group at 241-5031. Speculators should be ashamed of themselves.

Just for everyone's information: I would not consider $82,000 a large insurance payment, minus the $5,000 deductible ($77,000). I personally have invested over $165,000 in the building over the past two years. Roof repairs, gutter repairs, tuckpointing, new electric service, plumbing, etc, etc, etc. I know it doesn't look like it, but it's the truth. It will cost a minimum of $250,000 to rebuild the south wall- and nothing else. That is far more than the property is worth. My insurance settlement will not even cover demolition costs. The owners of the Absorene Mfg. Co. (now on Cass Ave.) and the thrift store up the street really signed this buildings death warrant during their stewardships. I tried to save it, but it didn't work out. It seems as though a lot of people have good intentions, but at the end of the day, that plus $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee....
