Sky Lobby

From a press release on the hotel at Lumiere Place (via MayorSlay.com):

The Hotel features a "sky lobby" on the eighth floor that overlooks a lushly landscaped rooftop pool area with the city’s best view of the Arch and skyline.

This isn't the first time I've encountered the phrase "sky lobby." "Sky lobby" seems to be marketing-speak for "the first seven levels of this hotel comprise a parking garage."

What do you think about the skyhouse building that will be built at 15th and locust? it has a rooftop pool and skylobby type gig but looks pretty cool. a chicago firm building in stl is a good thing. of course i will not buy one because i favor the 100+ year old mansions the pepper the city

whoops did not read your next post, and it is at 15th and washington

Of course a large parking garage is needed...don't you know how far it is to BPV?

Underground parking perhaps? The length of the garage is probably more than the height of the building. It is ugly and detracts from the tower.

Yeah, you're totally right. This entire project should only welcome people who walk or ride a bicycle. Cars = coffins. With or without a parking garage, a ground-level lounge would really suck here. What would you look at. I look forward to the view.

Perhaps there was a problem with the water table being too close to the surface? Laclede's Landing is pretty close to the water table compared to most of St. Louis. They might simply have not been interested in blasting out the bedrock/worrying about pumping water out all of the time.

In MO & IL to build a casino on land by law there has to be some type of water under the building. So in the case of the lumier Place & The Casino Queen both of them have a water reservoir under the building (I recieved this info from my brother who was a journeyman carpenter for the Lumier Place). This might be why they have above ground parking. I myself would love to see someone ride their bike to a casino and then I would love even more to see them ride away drunk and scared with 10K in cash.

Of course, the old Boat in a Moat, as they called it. I figured Lumiere Place had obtained a waiver from the rule that all Missouri casinos have to be on boats/barges.

Speaking of boats, who thinks the Admiral should be put back into use as a riverboat?

I think it would be a great idea to put the Admiral back in service as a river cruise ship. I took a cruise last fall on the Becky Thatcher--which basically consists of a bar and some deck chairs--and had a great time.

The Admiral's hull, from what I've read, is completely shot. It would have to be overhauled at great expense before it could be seaworthy.

That said, the Admiral's life as a casino might be coming to an end REALLY soon. They claim they won't shut it down when Lumiere Place opens, but I have a feeling it will be empty within a year, with its fate up in the air yet again.

It is the only Art Deco riverboat in the World. Why is it not on the National Register? Get historical tax credits. That is something that no one else has! Why are we putting so much effort into a casino, which many cities have, while our truly unique assets are at risk of being scrapped? To paraphrase, perhaps it is because Mayor Slay thinks the Admiral is a tin piece of shit? Fucktard.

Can a riverboat be on the National Register of HIstoric Places? I thought it had to have a legitimate address. Is there an organization that could be formed to be a steward of the boat?

I know that it would have to be drydocked and the whole inside replaced. It's currently just a barge...no actual engine at all.

Yes, though it seems like a long-shot in this case.

Would the Mayor's Public Relations guru take the time to do a post, or perhaps Poll, regarding the admiral which could include its history, along with photos, in order to bring this unique structure onto the publics agenda?
