In the midst of discussion on this blog about a partly un-boarded broken window on the vacant Fourth Baptist Church at 13th and Sullivan in Old North St. Louis, a new board went up (at right in the photo above). This simple act will prevent vandalism and trespass on the building, ensuring its survival as it awaits reuse.

It would be nice if a couple of boards actually did secure a building long term. LRA knows: boarding up buildings is not a long term fix.
Blogging has an impact.
It does indeed. Many people will likely show up for the San Luis Apartments action because of blogging.
The Catholic Church probably doesn't care much about a small group of people protesting a demolition so they can build a parking lot.
If you ordered the community's beefs with the STL Archdiocese, the San Luis Apartments issue is probably pretty low.
perhaps some would like to register their disapproval with the way urban land is rendered by not only elected officials but owners as well.
I think boarded up windows convey the same level of neglect as a smashed window. Actually replacing the window would convey the message to the vandals that did this that someone actually cares about the building.
Does anyone think that Fourth Baptist will sell even a minute before the 14th Street project is completed?
Clearly, if the church could be sold for $80,000 now but $120,000 later, the congregation will wait to sell.
That's how the market works. Cut through the crap about community and stewardship, and we are all the same. We're all trying to make the best deal possible with property.
